Camphor Laurel Trees are classed as a weed in Australia and harmful to the Eco System. Fab Slabs has found a way to repurpose these trees into antibacterial cutting boards. Your board will smell like Camphor when it arrives - this is completely safe, it is just the natural smell of the wood.

Naturally and permanently antibacterial - even after 10 years use.

All made from one single solid slab of timber - NO GLUES, NO JOINS, NO CHEMICALS.

Unique in colour grain and character. The color can range from greys - browns - beige.

Caring for you Fab Slabs
Wash your cutting board in warm soapy water after using it for cutting or serving.

Dry the cutting board completely before putting it away. (Whilst these boards are naturally antibacterial, if they are put away regularly whilst still containing moisture this can cause surface mold.)

When it looks dry, oil it lightly. We use grapeseed oil or Duzz All. 

Do Not;

• Put the cutting board in the dishwasher
• Leave out in the sun 
• Leave soaking in water

There is no need to rub salt or lemon into the board. Your Fab Slabs board is naturally antibacterial already and does not need salt or lemon to kill any germs.

Notes on using solid wood boards.
A solid piece of wood can buckle overtime due to the grain and/or knots in the wood. This is completely natural and if it does happen you can place on the bench (so that the board looks like an arch) and use something heavy to press it down flat - for ongoing care keep the board flat rather than standing upright.

Grain Raising
You may notice the surface feels slightly rough or fuzzy after your first wash. This is completely normal and is called "grain raising" - it happens with all natural wood products the first time they come into contact with water or heat. It is actually a sign that your product is made from natural, untreated wood - exactly as it should be.

To fix it, simply follow these steps:

1. Allow to dry completely at room temperature for a few hours.

2. Once dry, lightly sand with 220 grit sandpaper - rub gently along the grain, not against it. This will smooth the raised fibres and leave the surface silky again.

3. Rub a small amount of food-safe oil or our Duzz All Beeswax into the wood to condition it and protect against future grain raising.

After this first treatment your board will stay much smoother with regular use.
