THE SOLO BLACKSMITH | CHEFS KNIFE

A knife to keep for a lifetime.

Hand forged by Solomon of The Solo Blacksmith, from recycled carbon steel (old car springs given a second life as something genuinely extraordinary). This is not a production line knife. Every single one is beaten into shape by hand, which means no two are ever identical.

Carbon steel is favoured by serious cooks for a reason. It takes a sharper edge than stainless, holds it longer, and over time develops a natural patina - a dull grey finish that is the mark of a well used, well loved blade.

Solomon is a New Zealand blacksmith whose passion lies in the ancient craft of forging. He teaches, he makes, and he cares deeply about the things that come out of his workshop. This knife is proof of that.

Please note: As each knife is hand forged and beaten into shape, no two knives are ever the same and measurements may vary slightly.

    More Information

Building on traditional methods and using time-tested materials, Solomon from The Solo Blacksmith focuses on a useful, rough and ready, pared back design. He believes everyday, raw materials are given value by skilled hands and time of the maker; it can turn a piece of scrap into long lasting objects of daily use. Creating functional tools is what drew Solomon into this craft; pans for the kitchen, chisels to turn bowls, axes and knives to whittle spoons and endless possibilities abound.

    Care Instructions

Wipe clean and dry immediately after use. Store in a knife block to protect the edge. If rust appears, rub with a paste of baking soda and water. Carbon steel will patina over time - this is completely normal and expected.
