Black Walnut and Stainless Steel Ladle and Spatulas

Three pieces that do most of the work at the stove: a wok spatula for stir fries and flipping, a slotted spatula for lifting food out of oil or water, and a ladle for soups and stews. Buy one, or all three as a set.

The heads are 304 stainless steel and the handles are black walnut, warm to hold and good looking in a utensil pot on the bench. Each piece is 36 to 39cm long, long enough to reach the bottom of a big pot. Hand wash and dry them straight away.

Care Instructions

Ongoing Care

  • Hand wash with mild soap and warm water after each use.
  • Do not soak or put in the dishwasher.
  • Dry completely after washing.
  • Oil with a food-safe wood conditioner or Duzz All Beeswax every few months to keep the wood nourished and protected.
  • The better you care for your utensils, the longer they will last.

First Use - Grain Raising

You may notice the surface feels slightly rough or fuzzy after your first wash. This is completely normal and is called "grain raising" - it happens with all natural wood products the first time they come into contact with water or heat. It is actually a sign that your utensil is made from natural, untreated wood - exactly as it should be.

To fix it, simply follow these steps:

  1. Allow to dry completely at room temperature for a few hours.
  2. Once dry, lightly sand with 220 grit sandpaper - rub gently along the grain, not against it. This will smooth the raised fibres and leave the surface silky again.
  3. Rub a small amount of food-safe oil or our Duzz All Beeswax into the wood to condition it and protect against future grain raising.

After this first treatment your utensil will stay much smoother with regular use.

More Information

Color and grain of the wood might differ from the images online due to the natural material used.

Our utensils are made by a small workshop in China that we've worked with directly for a number of years. We chose them for their craftsmanship: solid walnut, cut to shape and finished by people who've been doing it a long time. We love knowing who makes our products.
